The Bloody Chamber is the feature story of Carter's collection. It is the story which directly explores the French pornographer Marquis de de Sade and his subjugation of women via extreme sexual violence both in his life and his writing.
The Bloody Chamber is based upon a French folklore tale written by Charles Perrault in 1697. Bluebeard murders each of his wives and displays their mutilated bodies in his bloody chamber. In Carter's adaption Bluebeard is thought to be the representation of de Sade. From a feminist stance Carter's version allows the last wife to be rescued by her mother, not her brothers.
This story is briefly analysed in my analysis of The Courtship of Mr Lyon and The Tiger's Bride on this site.
